Ensure the cooling system works

Throughout the warmer months, most of us rely on the air conditioning unit to cool us down and keep our homes cool. If you haven’t used it in months due to the colder winter months, then you may want to consider investing in air conditioning repair to improve its efficiency. The last thing you will want to be cut short and feeling too hot at home when it’s baking hot outside.

Utilize shutters

Many people have winter and summer curtains but now could be the time to make a more radical change and consider using shutters instead of curtains or blinds. Wooden or faux wooden shutters give rooms a clean, sleek feeling, with clear, unfussy lines. They make an attractive and stylish addition to any room and are very easy to clean and maintain. Don’t worry if you have unusual window shapes or sizes. Though most people have fairly standard windows one of the advantages of shutters is that they can be made to measure and fit perfectly. You can also get shutters with slats that can be opened and closed, allowing you to control the amount of light that enters, so if the sun is very bright, you can filter out some of the rays without losing all the brightness. Come the colder months; shutters also supply an extra layer of insulation, so you’re in a win/win situation all year-round.

Change the soft materials

Similar to your clothing, spring is also the time to switch to lighter bedding, cushions, and curtains. Ditch the flannel sheets, thick curtains, and wool cushions and opt for breezier cotton. Keep a light throw nearby in case the nights still get chilly. You can even totally switch up the look of your rooms by trading out decorative pillows or changing up the color of your bedding. Have one look for fall/winter and one for spring/summer – this will keep things from getting boring.

Add flowers

Nothing quite says Spring or Summer better than fresh flowers. Adding them to your living room, bedroom, or kitchen is a great way to brighten up the home and make it feel fresh. You could even add faux flowers, which are a more affordable option.

Deep cleaning the bigger rooms, or everywhere

Make your home sparkle and shine like the coming sun by giving your kitchen and your bathrooms a thorough deep clean. Pull back appliances, dust the tops of the cabinets, clean out your showerhead, and dust the blinds. Really get in those nooks and crannies and use some elbow grease. If you have kids and/or pets at home, be sure to use safe cleaning solutions. Nothing is quite as satisfying as sparkling countertops and a pristine powder room.
