Adding a burst of colour to your home’s exterior can be a great way to add kerb appeal. There are many different ways in which you can add colour to the front of your home. Below are just a few different ways.

Flowers

A cheap and simple way to add colour is to use flowers. By using flowers, you can create colourful accents around the front of your home. This could include using window boxes, adding hanging baskets or adding potted plants either side of the door. If you have a front garden, you may even be able to add flower beds or flowering bushes. Find a colour that will stand out against the front of your home. Red flowers like poppies, crocosmias and roses can look great against a white exterior. Blue flowers like delphiniums, blue cornflowers and irises will meanwhile stand out well against a red-brick exterior.

Your front door

A brightly coloured front door can help to draw people’s attention to the entrance. This could be anything from red to green. Colourful doors can look great on all kinds of properties from modern homes to period buildings. Just make sure that the door doesn’t clash with any surrounding features - it’s best to keep the rest of your exterior fairly neutral.

Your driveway

Driveways don’t have to be grey or black. By looking into gravel or resin, you can explore different driveway colours. This is a great way to make your driveway stand out. Colourful paving is also an option but can be slightly more pricey than gravel or resin. When using paving, make sure that the colour doesn’t clash with the brickwork of your home.

Your entire façade

You could consider painting the entire exterior of your home. This is a sure way to make your home stand out. This guide offers some tips for painting the front of your home. When painting the entire facade of your home, it’s best to stick to neutral coloured doors and windows frames. Be wary that in some area you may have to apply for planning permission before painting the entire front of your home due to the affect it can have on the whole neighbourhood.

Ornaments

You could get creative with colourful ornaments such as gnomes or windmills. For example, this fairy garden could be a great way to transform a front lawn. Try to match ornaments to the style of your home.

Curtains

A great way to add colour to windows could be to hang up colourful curtains. You could also consider experimenting with patterns. Roller blinds can also be used to add colour.

Lighting

It’s possible to light up the exterior of your home with coloured mood lighting. This can be a fun way of providing kerb appeal at night. Blues and purples are the most popular colours for exterior mood lighting as they can create a calming feel, however you can experiment with other colours if you want. You could even try changing colours.
